about

This song is based off of 2 Corinthians 5:21... which reads, "For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." This track is dedicated to remind us Christians, how forgetful we can be about the foundation of our salvation. It is entirely based upon the Great Exchange Christ made for us on that Cross (His righteousness for our sin), and in no way based upon us or our actions… a reminder we need daily.

lyrics

(Verse1)
See I'm quick to forget that I'm standing on the Christ just
Acting like I'm righteous man I'm sick in the head
I need a fist full of meds, rather than pills for nerves,
A dose of the word from the Great Physician instead
Lord I need constant reminders that I ain't the divine source
Ain't sitting on a high horse, it's me who's wearing blinders
A sinner prone to wander like I'm in a hold of bondage
Cynical like Thomas till I center on Ya promise
That He who knew no sin became sin
That we’d be the righteousness of God when we claim Him
Grace upon grace that's the faith that saves men
He’s traded us places God’s face for a basement
I stand in amazement and stare at the cross
He treats His son as the sinner while the sinner gets off
He was sent for the lost, full knowing the cost
The unjust for the just all creation would pause

(Chorus)
The more I forget my faith
And make mistakes
I need more grace
Cuz I depend on it
Lord how You take my place
Grace for shame
It's the Great Exchange
And I stand on it
Cuz You lived Your life so perfectly
And You bore my sin upon that tree
And You took that wrath of God for me
And give Your righteousness for free

(Verse2)
I can't do anything right it's like everything's tainted
Sin nature's great debt now I'll never make payment
See I'm stiff necked and got the head of a caveman
Sometimes I'm ship wrecked faith flat on the pavement
I forget who I'm living for, high on a pinnacle
When pride and a bitter soul lies like a centerfold
I’m in a low place brand new never been before
An indigo faith feeling blue like I’m in the cold
A sinner's soul's saved by the grace a substitute
Darkness and Light trade places when they trust in You
Bruised for our iniquities it pleased the Lord to crush Him too
Grieved by our deficiencies He needs see the justice through
Righteous for the vile, the orphan for His child,
The guilty’s set free while the innocent sets trial
Pure for the defiled, judgement for a smile
He bore the penalty of sin so we’d be reconciled

(Chorus)

(Verse3)
My memory is fading as I’m aging through this century
My enemy is Satan but some days we work in synergy
The symphony of worldliness and flesh.. is tempting me
Identity.. twistin’ and turnin’ like burnin’ centipedes
My inner peace is lost when the cross ain’t my centerpiece
Spiritually malnourished.. no service at a sinner’s feast
His ministry’s forgiven but I’m living like I’ve been deceased
Religiously I’ve choked now my hope’s in His sympathy
That He’s the scapegoat trading in His raincoat
Drownin’ till He’s pain soaked while the sinner stays afloat
Man He takes the blame so you can reap the rainbow
Dying for the plain folks chains broke grace note
Wondrously changed death for life just mutter His name
I gave Him sin from my heart He gave me blood from His veins
Covered in shame for the sinner's sake He suffers the same
God so loved the world He gave His only Son in exchange

(Chorus)
